EMDR Therapy is one many treatments provided by Linda Holmberg in Montgomery, Alabama.
What is EMDR?
EMDR is an acronym for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
EMDR Therapy is a highly-effective and highly-researched technique used to treat trauma and related conditions, such as:
- PTSD – Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
- Other issues
What Is Trauma?
A traumatic event is one that is deeply disturbing and distressing, and can vary from person to person.
Many people suffer from the impact of trauma, whether or not one realizes it or knows where it originated.
Trauma can occur when an event threatens our safety or sense of integrity. Whenever you feel intense humiliation, fear or powerlessness, you have experienced a traumatic event.
How Does EMDR Therapy Work?
EMDR Therapy & Treatments involve a multi-step process by which horizontal eye movements are observed and recorded during the recall of unpleasant thoughts.
The results are then used to help the client concentrate on and increase the strength of positive thoughts and beliefs in order to replace original negative beliefs.
Linda has received extensive training and consultation in the field of EMDR, and utilizes this therapy method with both adolescents and adults.
Typically, Linda meets with a client, obtains background information, assesses current functioning, and discusses how EMDR works before a mutual decision is made as to whether or not EMDR is an appropriate treatment option.
Linda is a member of the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA).
The “core purpose” of the EMDRIA is:
“To advance the education, practice, and science of EMDR.” ~ emdria.org
